I remember sitting on the couch September of 2020 bawling my eyes out not knowing how my fiancé and I would ever afford a house, have a child, or retire.
I was just over a year out of my masters and was ready to start taking on my music career. The only problem was, I was running out of money. I was in debt. I didn't know if I could pay rent. I didn't know what to do but I knew something had to give. So I picked up a serving job and decided I needed to figure out a way to get my money under control.
I spent the next few months reading as many personal finance books that I could, trying to learn as much as possible. And while I learned the basics of personal finance, the one thing I kept noticing about these books was that they were only geared towards individual with 9 - 5 jobs. So while some of the information was applicable, I found myself unable to relate to certain concepts because as a musician, I don't have a 9 - 5 job.
So in the summer of 2021, I decided to become a Personal Financial Counselor in order to learn everything I need to know to be financially stable as a musician. And the following October, I launched "The Financial Flutist" to help other musicians, artists, and creatives learn to take control of their money.
